How to set static ip on rpi 3 b+
I am trying to setup a system by just following the Beginners Guide and using ASL_MEMU. I want to have a static IP, and followed the instructions in the menu entering the data and then saving it. The system remains in DHCP mode every time. When I look at the /etc/network/interfaces file, there are no entries made. When I look for information on setting a linux static IP, it shows entering data in this file. Has anyone had success following the ASL-MENU?You can find/set the network options for DHCP vs. Static IP in the ‘1) Run first-time menu’ option on the asl-menu home screen.
Technically, its the same process you would’ve gone through when initially setting up the node.
Just go through the prompts, watch for existing settings, and pay attention to the “Do you want to change this?” question, and say ‘yes’… advance through some more screens, and provide the static settings when prompted on ‘Network setup’ screen, and finish the wizard. You’ll end up restarting your node to apply the changes.
In the newer releases of Debian based systems, The networking is controlled by DHCPCD and NOT the /etc/network/interfaces file. The net-setup scripts called by ASL-MENU will check if DHCPCD is installed and add the static configuration in the /etc/dhcpcd.conf If there is an error using the static configuration, DHCPCD will fall back to DHCP and attempt to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.
Check your /etc/dhcpcd.conf file for proper settings. (will be located at end of the file)
Ok well you can edit the this file:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
Here is example of my box set for static on 10.0.0.3:
Or you could type in “setup” at the prompt and use the tool to set
the system for static ip. Then stop network service and restart or just reboot the box.
In the resolve.conf I have the following: nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
these are 'open DNS" servers that are not ISP specific. You can also use your ISP DNS numbers too.

Setup or change wired or wireless connections
Wired Ethernet setting are configured at setup. Wired settings can be later changed to DHCP (default and preferred) or static depending on your needs
A wireless connection can be initially setup and controlled here. See wireless info below.
